Wesley Ray Engel

August 28, 1933 — January 21, 2005

Ray Engel, the most wonderful man in the world, was known to many as the best coach, friend, dad, papa, and loving husband. Ray was born to James Gomez Engel and Viola Crockett Engel on August 28, 1933, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He blessed others with his love for life. He had an ability to make others laugh with his corny jokes and his awesome sense of humor. He was the kind of man everyone wanted to be around. His sweet spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those he touched. He met Janice Wise, the one who made him complete, in Coweta, Oklahoma and they were married on August 15, 1952. Ray played professional baseball in the fifties and came home to be a coach in Jenks in 1958. Some of his most cherished memories were the years he spent in Jenks Public Schools. Coaching was in his blood and he continued to coach his grandchildren even after he became a counselor in Tulsa Public Schools. After 35 years as a coach, teacher and counselor, he retired from Tulsa Public Schools in 1992 The outpouring of love he has shared on Earth will be carried on forever by his cherished wife, girlfriend, and Mother Goose, Janice Engel ( The love of his life), his daughters: Renae McGuire, Tammy Barnes, Donna Spencer, and Paula Erwin, His son-in-laws: Jack McGuire, Johnny Barnes, and Jeff Erwin. His grandchildren: Amber and Justin Callaway, Tara and Matt Williams, Jason, Jenna, Chris, Valerie, Brittany, Johnson, Kara, and Joe Ray, and his great grandchildren: Cody, Dillon, Blake, and Jack, and his brothers Albert and Dave Engel, their wives Nancy and Eloise, his sister, Bernice Boyd, his stepbrother Glenn Hall and wife Lomeda, and his stepbrother in-law Jim Hughes, and his stepbrother Earl Hall.
