Wanda Lucille Burchett

April 10, 1950 — May 9, 2026

Wanda Lucille Russell Morgan, lovingly known simply as "Nannie," passed away peacefully on May 9, 2026, at the age of 76.

Lucille was born on April 10, 1950, and raised in Haskell. She graduated from Haskell High School and spent her life doing what she did best - loving and taking care of others. She worked at the local nursing home for 17 years, where she cared for people with kindness, patience, and compassion. In 1989, she proudly graduated from Central Technology Center as a med tech. She later went on to work at Rascal's convenience store, where she loved visiting and socializing with everyone who came through the doors, retiring in 2003.

She shared 50 beautiful years with the love of her life, Jerry Morgan, celebrating their 50th anniversary this past September.

Lucille was preceded in death by her beloved son, Roger Russell; her parents, Ethel and Gene Russell; her brothers, Joe Russell and Paul "Abby" Sheridan; and her sister, Shirley Hill.

She leaves behind her husband, Jerry Morgan; her daughter, Christy Ward, and son-in-law Bryan "Bull" Ward; her one and only granddaughter, Ashley Mustin, and grandson-in-law Kyle Mustin; her treasured great-grandchildren Cali, Chloe, Cooper Myers, and Brantley Mustin; her brother Carl Russell and wife Joyce; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends who loved her dearly.

To her family, she wasn't just a grandmother - she was home.

Her house was filled with warmth, laughter, full stomachs, and unconditional love. Dinner was always on the table at the same time every evening, usually with fried taters beside it, and nobody ever walked out of her home hungry. If you tried to leave without taking food or money, she would quietly tuck it into your purse or hide it in your car before you left.

Lucille was known for her divinity, sheet cakes, and pecan pies. She loved Dove chocolate, unsweet tea, black coffee, watching The Young and the Restless, and collecting wheat pennies and eagle quarters. She had a feisty spirit, a generous heart, and the kind of genuine laugh that instantly made everyone around her laugh too.

Being "Nannie" was the role she loved most in life. She spoiled her granddaughter endlessly and somehow loved and spoiled her great-grandchildren even bigger. They loved making mud pies with her, counting change just for fun, dancing, singing, being goofy, and knowing they were loved beyond measure. She was fiercely protective of every child she loved - and if anyone dared get onto one of them in front of her, they were going to hear about it.

Some of the sweetest memories will forever be of staying the night with Nannie, her making Papa sleep on the couch so there would be more room in the bed, scratching backs while telling stories, and making everyone around her feel safe, comforted, and loved. She had a way of loving people that made them feel cared for in every possible way.

Lucille was the kind of woman who would give you her last dollar or the shirt off her back without hesitation. She never wanted anyone she loved to go without. Taking care of others was simply who she was, and she did it her entire life without ever expecting anything in return.

There truly are not enough words to describe the loss her family feels. Everything will feel a little harder without her here. Her love was constant, steady, and unmatched. To her family, she was more than special - she was the very best Nannie in the world, and she will be missed every single day.
