Thomas Lewis Halowell Sr.

Thomas Lewis Halowell, age 88, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and a family who will forever carry his love, strength, and influence in their hearts.

Thomas, known as Tom to his family and friends, was born on March 15, 1938, in Chester, West Virginia, to Lewis and Alice Halowell. In 1960, he married the love of his life, Sharron K. Halowell. Together, Tom and Sharron built a life centered around family, eventually raising their three children, Tamra (Tammy), Thomas Jr. (Tom), and Timothy (Tim), in Simi Valley, California.

Tom proudly served his community for 20 years as a police officer with the Los Angeles Police Department, retiring from the Devonshire Division. His years in law enforcement reflected so much of who he was-a strong and stoic man with an unwavering sense of responsibility and a commitment to helping others. Those qualities became part of the legacy he passed on to his children and grandchildren.

Before becoming a police officer, Tom worked at the post office alongside his lifelong best friend, Hugh "Red" Kutch. The two were "thick as thieves" and remained the closest of friends throughout their lives. Their friendship was truly one of a kind, built on decades of stories, laughter, loyalty, and memories.

Tom was a man who was rarely idle. He loved woodworking, tinkering with and rebuilding cars, riding dirt bikes, bird and deer hunting, and working in the garden with Sharron by his side. He loved the outdoors and spent countless days camping with his family throughout the United States. He coached baseball and even served as Little League President at the youth baseball fields in Simi Valley, while Sharron ran the "snack shack." Together, they were always involved, always present, and always making memories with their family.

In 1990, Tom and Sharron made Oklahoma their home and began the next chapter of their life together. Their commitment to helping others continued through more than 15 years of volunteer service with the American Red Cross. But perhaps their favorite role during those years was simply being Grandma and Grandpa. Their days were happily filled with their grandchildren, and neither Tom nor Sharron ever missed an opportunity to be in the stands for a youth baseball or football game.

When he wasn't busy with family, a project, or one of his many hobbies, Tom could often be found watching John Wayne and classic Westerns or listening to what he would tell you was the only kind worth listening to-the "real" country music like Marty Robbins, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings and his favorite of all time, Tex Ritter's Blood on the Saddle. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Alice Halowell; his sister, Janice Halowell; and his lifelong best friend, Red.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 66 years, Sharron; his daughter, Tammy Montesanto and her husband, Carmen; his son, Tom Halowell Jr. and his wife, Theresa; and his son, Tim Halowell and his wife, Sharon. He was the proud grandfather of five grandsons, Jeremy, Josh, Tanner, Trevor, and Tyler, and the proud great-grandfather of Logyn, Lemry, and Landon. He is also survived by his sisters, Joanne Johnson and Sarah Halowell; his brother, Johnny Halowell; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him deeply. Tom may have been a man of few words, but those fortunate enough to truly know him knew the humor, loyalty, love, and unmistakable personality beneath his stoic exterior. He could be tough when he needed to be, quick with a smart remark when you least expected it, and fiercely devoted to the people he loved.

His life was one of service-to his community, to others, and most importantly, to his family. The lessons he taught, the strength he modeled, the laughter he created, and the memories he gave will continue through the generations that follow him.

He leaves behind far more than memories. He leaves behind a family shaped by the man he was and a legacy of love, loyalty, strength, service, and family that will endure long after his Passing.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
