Thomas Owen Choate Jr.

August 1, 1961 — May 31, 2026

Thomas "Gbon" Owen Choate Jr, 64, of Mounds, Oklahoma peacefully went to be with the Lord Sunday, May 31st, 2026 at his home, surrounded by loved ones and friends.

"Gbon" was born August 1st, 1961, in Salina, Kansas to Thomas Choate and Gloria (Tulsa) Ware. He attended Coweta Public Schools before adventuring the wilderness of life. He enjoyed the thrill of being a bull rider and spent his working years as a construction worker, laying pipe, hauling rock, a "jack of all trades," as he would say!

However, those who knew him best will remember him most for his big heart and his desire to help others in need. "Gbon" was known to go without, to give you his last dollar (or last cigarette). His sense of humor was unmatched, and he was always making others laugh to lift their spirits. He enjoyed going to the casino (but only if he won)! He enjoyed cooking (and he was good at it), a highly skilled fisherman and hunter, and enjoyed spending most of his days outdoors. He loved Jesus with his whole heart and loved to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. He highly respected his grandparents and took in everything they tried to teach him as a young boy. "Gbon" was a simple kind of man, didn't want for much. He enjoyed God's blessings in nature and took every opportunity he could to be out in it. He found peace by the water fishing. If he could be anywhere in the world, fishing is where he'd be! Throughout his entire life, he has not only shown me, but many others how to never give up. If life knocked him down (and it did many times), he'd get right back up. He kept his faith, he stayed true to himself, lived his life for Jesus carrying his cross and sharing his testimony of what God has done for his life. He was the strongest, most determined, God-fearing man that ever lived. And he will be greatly missed by all that had the privilege to know and love him.

"Gbon" was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother, Gloria (Tulsa) Ware; his brother, Ronald "Joe" Choate; and his lady, Shelia Roach.

"Gbon" is survived by his father, Thomas Choate of Talihina; his daughter, Calen (Michael) Bury, of Coweta; his grandchildren, Tyler, Kole, Chase and Lakely Bury, of Coweta; Amanda (Steve) Hale of Tulsa; Conner Hale, of Tulsa; his sister, Nerissa Gadlage, of Tulsa; his sister, Myra (Tim) Akers, of Coweta; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
