Terry Glen Shaw

July 18, 1948 — June 12, 2026

Dr. Terry G. Shaw, ABPN, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly. He was 77 years young. May he journey among the imperishable stars.

Born on July 18, 1948, in McAlester, Oklahoma, Terry was the youngest son of Earnest and Tommie Sue Shaw. He was a proud citizen of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma and honored his tribal heritage throughout his life.

After graduating from high school, Terry attended Oklahoma State University, where he met the love of his life, Donna. After welcoming their first child, they moved to Houston, Texas, where Terry pursued his doctoral studies at the University of Houston. In time, they returned to Oklahoma, trading city life for the open spaces he cherished.

Terry built an extraordinary career as a board-certified neuropsychologist, becoming the first Native American in Oklahoma to achieve that distinction. Throughout his decades-long career, he worked in both public service and private practice, helping thousands of individuals navigate the challenges of traumatic brain injury. He also served as an adjunct professor at Baylor College of Medicine, the University of Tulsa, and Oklahoma State University and mentored doctoral candidates, many of whom have gone on to distinguished careers of their own. His outstanding contributions to the field of neuropsychology leave a lasting legacy that will continue for generations.

Outside of his profession, Terry was happiest outdoors. Whether tending to his farm, playing golf, or spending time in the woods, he was an avid outdoorsman. Autumn was his favorite season, and he looked forward to hunting season each year with great enthusiasm. He was also a devoted fan of Oklahoma State Cowboys football and never missed an opportunity to cheer on the Houston Astros and the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Donna; his daughter, Erin Shaw; his daughter, Cady Shaw, and her husband, Sean Seelye; his son, Dr. Parker Shaw, and his wife, Katie Shaw; and his cherished grandchildren, Isobel, Oliver, Penny, Thora, and Carson, each of whom brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his sister, Patti McCullar, as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, colleagues, and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Dale Shaw.

Terry was known for his kindness, generosity, quick wit, and unwavering devotion to the people he loved. His presence was larger than life, and he has left a hole in his family that is bigger than the whole sky. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

A private celebration of Terry's life will be held at a later date for family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his memory to The Nature Conservancy of Oklahoma or the Brain Injury Association of America.

Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family online, www.schaudtfuneralservice.com
