Talan Dempsey Chesser passed away on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, at the age of 17.
Talan was born on July 29, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to Casey Chesser and Nichole (Rake) Chesser. Although he arrived three weeks early, it quickly became clear that he would do things at his own pace. Easygoing and fun-loving, Talan never seemed to be in a hurry. He loved to sleep, enjoyed making people laugh, and had a personality that naturally drew others to him.
Growing up, Talan enjoyed playing baseball and spent several years playing youth football, but his greatest athletic passions were basketball and golf. He was also deeply involved in FFA, where he discovered a love for agriculture and animals. He proudly earned his Oklahoma State FFA Degree, participated in cattle grading, worked in the agriculture shop, showed sheep and goats, and attended the Oklahoma FFA State Convention. His time in FFA gave him friendships, experiences, and memories that he treasured.
Talan had an extraordinary love for animals. In sixth grade, he desperately wanted a dog and even created a PowerPoint presentation for his dad, complete with a drawing of the dog he envisioned, hoping it would convince him to say yes. His persistence paid off when the family welcomed a Golden Retriever named Winnie. Winnie quickly became his constant companion, often spending the day sleeping in Talan's bed, and the two shared a special bond. His love for animals didn't stop there. Over the years, he cared for six hermit crabs, wanted a lizard, and instead happily welcomed a pet mouse into his collection of beloved companions. He loved the ocean and sea life and planned to attend college to become a marine biologist.
Anyone who knew Talan knew he loved food. As a young child, bacon was about the only thing he wanted to eat, but as he got older, he developed an appreciation for just about everything. He was known for eating incredibly fast and never passed up one of Mamaw's homemade rolls, which were among his favorite treats.
Talan also had a unique sense of style and a love for shoes. He enjoyed expressing himself through what he wore and wasn't afraid to have his own look. More than anything, he will be remembered for his kind heart, easygoing nature, quick smile, and the joy he brought to those around him. His life, though far too short, left an unforgettable mark on his family, friends, classmates, teachers, teammates, and everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Talan leaves behind his loving father, Casey Chesser and Ashley Summers; his devoted mother, Nichole (Rake) Chesser and Crafton Smalley; his beloved brother, Ryker Chesser; his great-grandmother, Ann Murphy; his grandmother, Cathy Garton; his grandparents, Kevin and Pam Chesser; his aunts, Brianne Adams and husband Brandon, Daisha Barkhimer and husband Seth, and Andrea Dunlap and husband Mark; his uncle, David Looper; his cousins, Addison and Brooke Adams, Tinley, Quin, and Leighton Barkhimer, Rivden Dunlap; along with Jace Pilkington and Jaxson Smalley and girlfriend Lexi Rowe along with a host of other loving family members, dear friends, classmates, teammates, and all whose lives were touched by knowing him.
