Susan Stiggins

February 7, 1946 — March 11, 2024

Susan Carr Stiggins, age 78, passed from this life on March 11, 2024 in Tulsa, OK, surrounded by her family. She was born in Amarillo, TX to Fred and Reed Carr on February 7th, 1946. She grew up in Pampa, TX, where she met her future husband, Dirk Stiggins. After they married and moved to Levelland, TX, she earned her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Texas Tech University. As their family grew, she and Dirk began building a life together that involved living in Argentina, Norway, and England, as well as several different states. Throughout these many moves, Susan always made the house into a home and was a rock for Dirk and their children. A loving wife and mother, she was a dedicated caregiver, whether she was taking care of her family, informally fostering other people's children, serving in the church, working with Habitat for Humanity, or nursing her own mother in her final days. Susan loved to sing in the choir and baked the best apple pies. She left her mark on countless lives, and her passing will be mourned by many.

She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers, John Carr and David Carr. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dirk Stiggins; her four children and their spouses, Julie Tietz (Greg Tietz), Monica Stiggins (Alan Nguyen), Greg Stiggins (Aimee Stiggins), and Jeff Stiggins (Amber Stiggins); seven grandchildren; and brothers, Mike Carr, Robert Echols, and Steven Echols.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to MD Anderson Cancer Center or the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
