January 9, 1948 — March 1, 2026

Susan Boyle (née Stark), born on January 9, 1948, in Columbia, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma with her daughter by her side. She was 78 years old.

Susan's life was marked by her dedication to education and her pioneering spirit. After completing her undergraduate studies in Communications at William Jewell College, she pursued further education at the University of Tulsa earning her degree in Communicative Disorders and Audiology. After school, Susan established her private practice in Tulsa, where she faithfully served thousands of patients over more than 40 years. In 2001, Susan achieved a remarkable milestone by earning one of the first doctorate degrees offered in Audiology from the Arizona School of Health Sciences. Her academic achievements reflected her commitment to excellence and her passion for advancing in her field.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Susan embraced life with an adventurous and curious spirit. She loved to travel and sought out extraordinary experiences around the globe. Among her many adventures, she walked along the Great Wall of China, rode a camel through the sands of Egypt, attended a performance of Swan Lake in Russia, and kissed the Blarney Stone in Ireland. These journeys were a testament to her zest for life and her desire to explore the world's wonders.

Closer to home, Susan found joy in simpler pleasures as well. She was an avid bridge player who cherished the camaraderie and challenge of the game, earning many gold points and she was close to receiving her Life Master certificate in duplicate bridge. She also had a green thumb and took pride in tending to her plants. Above all else, Susan treasured time spent with her family, especially visiting with her beloved granddaughters.

Susan is survived by her daughter Mary Gurley; son-in-law Aaron Gurley; and granddaughters Charlotte and Paige Gurley. She was predeceased by her parents, S. Thomas Stark Jr. and Ruth Stark; as well as her brothers Stephen and Michael Stark.

Susan will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. Her memory will live on through the lives she touched and the legacy she leaves behind.
