Sue Imogene McDermott

July 15, 1937 — January 27, 2026

Sue Imogene McDermott passed away peacefully on Tuesday January 27th at Saint Francis hospital in Tulsa, Oklahoma surrounded by her loving family at the age of 88 years and 7 months.

Sue was born in Battiest, Oklahoma on July 15, 1937 to Ida Mae Noah. She attended Battiest schools until she reached high school age then attended Tahlequah Sequoyah boarding school and then Chilocco Agricultural School in Newkirk, Oklahoma where she graduated in 1956. It was at Chilocco where she met the love of her life, Leroy McDermott and the two were united in marriage on January 18, 1960. They shared 62 devoted years together, building a life centered on love, family and faith. While starting their life together they moved to California where she had four children Lisa, Jesse, Micah and Philip. She treasured her role as a wife and mother.

Throughout her working life Sue was known for her dedication and strong work ethic. She began her career working in an electronics plant and later after the family moved to Oklahoma, served the state as secretary with the women, infant and children (WIC) program. She retired in 2008 at the age of 71. In addition, Sue was a licensed beautician, a skill that reflected her creativity and care for others.

Sue was affectionately known as "Grami". She was also lovingly known as "Bush" by her husband Leroy because of her hair. She had a witty personality and sense of humor that brought smiles to all those around her. She was a devoted OKC Thunder fan and had a lifelong love of Elvis Presley. Grami greatly enjoyed family time especially the holidays and birthdays. She took pride in cooking for family gatherings. One of her greatest joys was watching her two grandsons play baseball and cheering them on from the stands. She hardly missed a game.
