Sandy Magee, 83, long-time Enid resident, passed peacefully at home April 10, 2023 surrounded by family.
Sandy was born in Enid April 29, 1939 to Vernon F. and Edith M. Babb, the fourth of five siblings. She graduated from Enid High School with the class of 1957, and completed her nurses training at Hillcrest Medical Center, Tulsa in 1960. That same year, she married Patrick Magee and they remained in Enid, where they raised three children. Following her training, she began a long career as a registered nurse in the Emergency Department at St. Mary's Hospital. She quickly assumed the role of clinical nursing coordinator and was instrumental in transforming the Department into the premier emergency facility in northwest Oklahoma. Sandy had a lifelong passion for farming and ranching, and was responsible for establishing a first of it's kind farming safety program in Garfield County. She was a longtime parishioner of St Gregory the Great Catholic Church where she had a pivotal role in its founding. In 1993, Sandy assumed a nursing position at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Altus, where she remained until her retirement in 2011.
Sandy spent her remaining years in Bixby, near her daughter.
She is survived by her three children, Dr Michael Magee and his wife Cindy of Bedford, NH, Brian Magee and his fiancee Geanie Sizemore of Springdale, AR, and Heather Pfriem of Bixby. She also leaves 8 adoring grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
She was preceded by her parents, four siblings, and longtime partner L.H. Diel of Breckinridge, OK.
The family plans to hold a private celebration of life at Riverview Cemetery in Nardin, Oklahoma when the wheat grows golden and high, per Sandy's request.
