Ruth Booher was born in Kenly, North Carolina on July 23, 1947, to her parents, Thomas and Ida Oberman. She came from humble beginnings spending her early life on farms in North Carolina with her older brother, Thomas, and younger sister, Joyce. She often spoke of those times in Kenly, North Carolina, feeding pigs and picking cotton. Because her father was in the Navy, she moved several times growing up, living in Maine and finally settling in Virginia Beach. Virginia Beach would become her home.
Ruth met and married her first husband and had her first child, Michael Newnam, on June 8, 1969. She lovingly raised Michael in Virginia Beach as a single mother, until she met and married George (Bill) William Booher, on January 9, 1981, in Atlanta, GA. Bill was the love of her life and her husband for the next 42 years. On August 3, 1982 her second son Stephen Booher was born. She loved her children more than anything else in the world and would always sacrifice herself for their wellbeing.
Ruth's passions were her family and her love for Jesus. While she had many jobs in her early 20s and 30s (model, server, bank teller, executive assistant, and entrepreneur), her primary career was as a homemaker. Because of her humble beginnings, she worked tirelessly to ensure her family's needs were met, sewing, baking, cooking, cleaning, and providing wisdom and guidance. Through multiple family moves within the United States and internationally, she kept her house in order and made sure her kids' needs were met. She never wanted to see her family go without. Her house was always filled with laughter and joy. She constantly brought cheer to everyone through silly stories, songs, and witty sayings.
She was a strong believer in Jesus Christ and personified the Jesus' love for people. She lived by the tenants of Bible verses like Matthew 7:12 (do unto others as you have them do unto you..), Matthew 25:40 (feed the hungry), and Luke 6:35-36 (love your enemies). When family needed help, she gave it; when her parents needed to be cared for she cared for them; when people asked for money or food, she provided. Her life was filled with generosity and giving. She touched countless people in her travels with Bill and changed the course of many lives.
She is survived by her husband, George (Bill) William Booher and loving family of two sons and nine grandkids!
