Roger moved with his family to Tulsa when he was in 7th grade where he attended Cleveland JH. On the first day of classes in Tulsa, the bell rang ending first period. After college, Roger enlisted in the United States Army and was subsequently deployed to Vietnam. He was honorably discharged three years later with the rank of Staff Sergeant.

One of his notable hobbies at that time was stock car racing. He was also an avid quail hunter with his hunting dog Rusty, a bass fisherman who could catch fish without bait and golfer. A pro golfer in the Army told Roger he should turn pro when he is discharged.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Wanda Brown and nephew Daytona Wilson. Survived by beloved wife of 59 years, Moorea (Moe), daughters Marnie Freeman (Kevin) and Tracy Gallemore (Steve). Granddaughters Madysen and Kieryn Freeman and Kaitlyn Gallemore.
