Robert "Kevin" Tennell

October 26, 1951 — May 25, 2025

Robert "Kevin" Tennell, a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and distinguished veteran, passed away peacefully on May 25, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on October 26, 1951, in Peoria, Illinois, Kevin lived a life defined by service, love, laughter, and unwavering integrity.

Kevin proudly served in the United States Army for 32 years, dedicating his life to the protection and betterment of his country. His military career was marked not only by his commitment to excellence but by his mentorship and leadership. Among his many contributions, Kevin played a pivotal role in preparing new recruits for basic training-an experience that helped shape countless lives. He was a respected and invaluable asset to the armed forces.

An expert marksman, Kevin earned a place on the Governor's 20, recognized as one of the top 20 shooters in the state. His passion for competitive shooting extended into wild west shooting competitions, where he displayed remarkable skill with both rifle and pistol. These pursuits reflected Kevin's love for precision, discipline, and the joy of sport.

Kevin's heart, however, was always with his family. Married to the love of his life, Lisa Tennell, for 18 wonderful years, their bond was an enduring example of gentle, genuine love. They were inseparable-partners in every sense of the word, never doing anything without each other. Their marriage was a living testament to mutual respect, devotion, and joy.

As a father, Kevin was a guiding light. He never missed a sporting event, always there in the stands cheering his children on. He believed in teaching through thought and reflection rather than simple instruction-a gift that made him not just a father, but a teacher, mentor, and friend to his children. He had a natural way of making life fun, often remembered for his playful humor and his deep presence during family moments.

Kevin is survived by his beloved wife Lisa Tennell; sons Matt Tennell, Mark Tennell, and Blake Allen; daughter Samantha Coleman; grandchildren Braylee Venable and her husband Clay, Lucas Eller, and Autumn Coleman; and great-grandson Henry Venable. Brothers and Sisters Staci, Tim, Jim, Joe, and Sara. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rachael Tennell.

Kevin will be remembered for his strength, wisdom, laughter, and most of all, the love he gave so freely to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of service, kindness, and devotion that will live on through his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
