Obituary

Robert Ray McLaughlin

Robert Ray McLaughlin passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, at the age of 86.

Robert was born on August 30, 1940, in Hobart, Oklahoma, to Ira and Edna (Fox) McLaughlin. He later moved with his family to Oklahoma City, where he attended Central High School. He continued his education at Oklahoma State University, beginning a lifelong connection to the university. Robert remained an avid and devoted Oklahoma State fan throughout his life and was always proud to cheer on the Cowboys.

Robert was a hardworking and dedicated man who built a long and successful career with Sears. He served as an area manager for more than 35 years, earning the respect of those he worked alongside through his commitment, dependability, and strong work ethic.

Robert also proudly served his country as a member of the Air National Guard from 1964 until 1970. During his six years of service, he achieved the rank of Sergeant.

In his younger years, Robert enjoyed staying active and having fun. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed square dancing, and had a special appreciation for his 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle. Whether it was an evening at the bowling alley, time spent on the dance floor, or enjoying his Chevelle, Robert knew how to appreciate the simple pleasures in life.

Robert shared 40 years of marriage with his first wife, Betty Ruth Potter McLaughlin, before her passing. Their years together brought many treasured memories and a family that remained an important part of Robert's life.

Later in life, Robert was fortunate to find love again when he met Kiran. After a brief courtship, Robert and Kiran were married on August 19, 2009, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Together they shared a loving companionship and many wonderful years. In 2019, Robert and Kiran moved from Shawnee to Glenpool, Oklahoma, where they made their home.

Faith was also an important part of Robert's life. He attended the Glenpool Church of Christ, where he valued the fellowship and friendships he found within the church community.

Those who knew Robert will remember a man who worked hard, loved his family, remained loyal to the people and things important to him, and enjoyed life in his own special way. His 86 years were filled with family, faith, service, hard work, and countless treasured memories.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Kiran McLaughlin of Glenpool; his daughter, Kimberly Hayes; his sister-in-law, Phyllis Morton; four grandchildren; along with a host of other family members and friends who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Edna McLaughlin; his first wife of 40 years, Betty Ruth Potter McLaughlin; and his son, Robert Allen McLaughlin.

Robert's life will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
