Robert Johnson

October 19, 1932 — June 10, 2025

Robert Johnson, Jr., of Broken Arrow, known by friends and family as "Bob," passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 10, 2025 in Tulsa at the age of 92, with family by his side.

Bob was born on October 19, 1932, in Brooklyn, New York. He spent his early years in Brooklyn, and has told stories of hopping on trolleys as a young boy during World War II and going into New York City to see Big Band live radio shows.

When he was 15 years old, his father, Robert Johnson Sr., moved their family to Macon, Missouri. This would prove to be a fateful decision, because at age 16, Bob met the love of his life, Janet Erickson, while attending Macon High School. After graduation, Bob and Janet moved to Tulsa, where Janet's parents were living, and were married on April 13, 1952. They remained in Tulsa for the rest of their lives. After 64 years of marriage, Janet passed away in May 2016.

Shortly after they married, Bob was drafted into the Korean War. He served almost two years, and was stationed in Hawaii, Korea, and Japan before returning home to Tulsa and starting a family. Janet and Bob suffered the devastating loss of two children, Linda and Robbie, before giving birth to three boys and a girl: Eric, John, Neil, and Janice.

Bob was a family man and also a very successful businessman. In order to support his growing family, Bob made the decision to quit his job as an insurance salesman to form his own company in the early 1970s. He started The Bob Johnson Company, and later changed its name to Johnson Brokers and Administrators. He also formed a pharmaceutical benefits company, Provider Medical Pharmaceutical.

Bob enjoyed spending time with family, collecting sports memorabilia and German steins, sailing, traveling, hunting and fishing with his sons, and building his companies. In his later years, you would often find him on the golf course. He once said, "I'll be on my way home, and my car will automatically turn onto the golf course. I can't help it."

Bob loved to have fun and laugh. If you gave him a compliment, he would often jokingly say, "You might be right." He was a member of the Optimist Club for many years and lived his life according to the Optimist Creed. He loved people and made everyone around him feel special. He was a very caring man, and loved helping others in their time of need.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife Janet Evelyn Johnson, daughter Linda Johnson and son Robert Johnson III, mother Louise Johnson and father Robert Johnson Sr.

He is survived by his sons Eric Johnson, John Johnson and his wife Ali, Neil Johnson, daughter Janice Ferland and her husband Joey, grandchildren Matthew Simmons, Steven Simmons, step-grandchildren Brandon Strickland, Bently Ferland, and Kyler Ferland, and numerous other relatives and friends.
