Nina Elizabeth O'Shaughnessy

Nina Elizabeth "Liz" Littlefield O'Shaughnessy passed away on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the age of 84. She is with Jesus now.

Liz was born at home on September 18, 1941, in Amber, Oklahoma, to Edmond Varner Littlefield Sr. and Dora (Looney) Littlefield. She grew up on the family farm in rural Caddo County alongside her six beloved siblings: Le, Jan, Linda, Edmond, Edie, and Nita. Liz had five older half-siblings-Cloyce, Cleatice, Ruth, Katherine, and Joy-whom she enjoyed visiting during her teen years.

Education and her professional career were important parts of Liz's life. After a short banking career following her graduation from Cyril High School, she attended the University of Oklahoma, where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1974 and earned a master's degree in Speech Pathology and Communication Disorders in 1976. Liz built a dedicated career in speech and hearing pathology. She served as head of Speech Services at George Nigh Rehabilitation Institute in Okmulgee and as an adjunct instructor at Oklahoma State University in Stillwater. She was also recognized in Who's Who Among Human Services Professionals. Liz did not have children of her own and devoted much of her life to her profession and to helping others through her work.

Liz shared a close, loving relationship with her nieces and nephews, especially her namesake, Lydia Elizabeth Littlefield; Lydia's twin brother, Samuel Littlefield, of Cyril; and Christy Nicole Littlefield Claypool of Tulsa, who lived with Liz after high school. Liz loved and supported her nieces and nephews as though they were her own, taking great interest in their lives and remaining a meaningful presence in their families throughout the years.

Liz was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church in Okmulgee, where she was involved for more than 30 years and sang in the Chancel Choir. She was active in many national and local service organizations, including the Lioness Club, where she served as president, and the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors. After retirement, she was active in the local senior citizen community and appreciated the creativity and fellowship it brought into her life. Red roses held a special place in her heart, as did her dearly loved cats and dogs.

Her compassion extended well beyond those she knew personally. Throughout her life, Liz generously supported animal welfare organizations around the world as well as efforts dedicated to cancer treatment and Parkinson's disease research. She also remained a loyal supporter of the University of Oklahoma, an institution that had played such an important role in her education and life.

Liz was preceded in death by her father, Edmond Varner Littlefield Sr.; her mother, Dora Looney Littlefield; her brother, Edmond Varner Littlefield Jr., and his sons, John and James; her five older half-siblings; and her beloved older sister, Leann Yvonne Littlefield Gunderson, who passed away on August 15, 2026.

She leaves many loving memories with her sisters, Jeanna Mary Littlefield Regier, Linda Jean Littlefield Rondinella, Edith Littlefield Sundby, and Ollie Juanita Littlefield Dickey, and Ollie's husband, Glenn Dickey, who was of enormous help to Liz; her many beloved nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives, friends, colleagues, and those whose lives she touched throughout her career and community.
