Mary Lea Hooks Brown

November 21, 1915 — January 21, 2005

Tulsa, OK- Mary Lea (Hooks) Brown, died January 21, 2005, at St. John's Hospital, Tulsa. She was born on November 21, 1915, in LeFlore County, Oklahoma, to Admiral M. Hooks and Julia Ann (Young) Hooks. After graduating from Fanshawe High School in 1933, she attended Northeastern State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She began her teaching career in Fanshawe, Oklahoma. After moving to Tulsa in 1947, she became a teacher at Glenpool Public Schools where she taught from 1947 until she retired in 1978. She was a member of the OEA, NEA and lifelong member of the RLDS church. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Admiral and Julia Ann Hooks, brothers Ruben and Sherman Hooks, sister Merle (Hooks) Goss, son Robert Miral Brown, and nephews Jackie, Glen, Ray, and Gerald Hooks. Surviving family members include daughter and son-in-law Gail and Jim Peters, Sapulpa; son Bill Brown, Tulsa; granddaughter Julianna Peters Deligans, Oklahoma City; grandson Jon Peters, Norman; nieces Mary Scritchfield, Tulsa; Faydell Sturtridge, Clinton Township, MI; Laura Fischer, Maysville, ND; Lisa Sturtridge, Clinton Township, MI; nephew John Sturtridge, Clinton Township, MI. She was the most wonderful and loving mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher and friend and will be forever loved and missed. She will especially be remembered for her warm smile, basketball skills and pumpkin and cherry cream pies. Visitation, Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service, Monday, January 25, 2005, 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside services, Tuesday, January 26, 2005, Fanshawe, Oklahoma, 2 p.m. Officiated by Rev. Gregory McGowan. Arrangements were entrusted to Daniel C. Schaudt of Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service and Cremation Care.
