A graveside service honoring the life of Martin Albert Baker, Jr. will be 1:00 PM Wednesday, December 9, 2020 at Bixby Cemetery. Mr. Baker will lie in state for a come and go visitation on Tuesday from 12:00 PM-5:00 PM. Martin passed away on Sunday, December 6, 2020 in Jenks, Oklahoma at Grace Living Center. He was 97.Martin Albert Baker, Jr. was born July 4, 1923 in Leonard, Oklahoma to his parents Martin Albert Baker and Gracie Maud (Williams) Baker. Martin lived in the Bixby community most of his life with periods in California and Florida. He graduated from Bixby High School with the class of 1941. He was quite the accomplished bass drummer in the band. Martin was married to the love of his life Mildred Jane Tinkle on February 27th, 1943 and together had two sons. Martin was a charter member of Riverview Baptist Church and First Baptist Church in Bixby. He served as an ordained deacon in both churches.Martin worked in various positions in the aviation industry and retired from American Airlines in 1988. During retirement, Martin and Mildred would often be found traveling in their RV with friends and spending winters in South Texas. Hobbbies were never in short supply. In his 70's Martin took guitar lessons and learned how to play.Martin was preceded in death by his parents and wife Mildred. He is survived by: sons Martin A. Baker III and his wife Deborea, Ronald G. Baker and his wife Patsy, sister Irene Bradshaw, grandchildren Rhonda Player and her husband Michael, Pat Baker and his wife Linda, Eddie Sloan and his wife Shawn, Will Heffernan and his wife Chrisan, great-grandchildren Stephine Annett, Joshua Hardin, Danielle Russell, Joshua Sloan, Nan Baker, Emma Baker, Morgan Heffernan, Henry Heffernan, great-great grandchildren Nathan Hamsley, Christian Hardin, Alayna Hudson, Caleb Hudson and many other loving family members and friends.
