Larry Dwayne Gilliland

February 23, 1941 — July 28, 2025

Larry Dwayne Gilliland, 84, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully in his home on July 28, 2025. Born February 23, 1941, in Nowata County, Oklahoma, Larry lived a life full of grit, humor, and quiet devotion.

Larry is survived by his beloved wife, Margie, with whom he shared 36 wonderful years of marriage, after seven years of dating that only made their bond stronger. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, day trips, dancing, and the simple joy of each other's company. "Where’s Mom?" was a question Larry often asked—even if he knew exactly where she was—just because he always wanted her close.

He is also survived by his children: twins Terry Gilliland (Kimberly) and Sherry Bietman (Rick), and Kelle McCan; and the grandchildren Joshua Stathis, Justin Moore, Jillian Moore, and Amanda Stathis, along with several others he was proud to call his own. He was preceded death by his parents Jasper and Cecile; brother, Ray Gilliland (Ann); sister, Becky Holmes (Jerry); son Rodney Stathis, and son-in-law Mace McCan.

Larry worked for Koch Industries in Wichita, Kansas, and retired after years of dedicated service. A sharp shooter during his time in the National Guard, he carried that focus and edge throughout his life. He was a cantankerous man in the most lovable way—opinionated, witty, and never one to back down from a spirited conversation, especially if it involved the news.

He loved to read, fish in Grand Lake and Claremore, enjoy a good glass of wine, and watch birds in the backyard. In his younger days, he and Margie could be found dancing at the Elephant Run, making memories with music and motion. They once lived at Grand Lake, a time marked by adventure and serenity, always finding joy in life’s little getaways.

Larry was a strong presence, deeply loved, and will be missed more than words can say. His life was rich with family, stories, and unwavering love for Margie—the center of his world.
