Kent Ledell Rooks Jr., age 46, of Jenks, Oklahoma, passed away on April 26, 2025. Born on October 6, 1978, in Memphis, Tennessee, Kent lived a life marked by dedication to his faith, family, and professional excellence.
A proud alumnus of the University of Memphis, Kent was a talented saxophonist in the university's marching band. He later earned an associate degree in Electronics Engineering from Remington College, laying the foundation for a dynamic and accomplished career. Over the years, Kent held positions at KLLM Logistics, UPS, Asurion, Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky (TMMK), McElroy Manufacturing, Anheuser-Busch, Bridgestone, and Selah Logistics. His professional journey reflected a deep commitment to safety, quality control, compliance, transportation, maintenance, and leadership.
Kent co-owned and operated Selah Logistics with his wife, where he acquired his CDL Class A with Tanker Endorsement and worked as a Driver Safety and Compliance Officer. As a leader in the transportation and logistics industry, Kent played an integral role in driver safety, training, and coaching. His technical expertise included electronic circuit design and drafting, component manufacturing and assembly, equipment testing and evaluation, maintenance and repair work, and meticulous documentation practices, all of which contributed to his successful ability to run the trucking company in the field, while his wife and daughters managed and ran the business office.
Kent's dedication to excellence was further demonstrated through his participation in Toyota's Quality Control Training programs and Kaizen initiatives. He held various certifications, including JJ Keller Driver Trainer and Supervisor Reasonable Suspicion Certification.
Beyond his professional achievements, Kent was deeply rooted in his faith. He was an active member of Transformation Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he was a member of the Mended Men's Ministry and served in the Helps Ministry. Alongside his wife, he has traveled and served in various ministry support capacities that reflected his love for God, his family, and others.
Kent's greatest joy came from his family. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Dr. Charis Meegan Rooks; daughters Briana Angel Rooks and Katelyn Shyiane Rooks; and grandson Xavier Carson Rooks-Fly. He is also survived by his mother Diane Quinn; stepfather Jeffery Quinn; father Kent Rooks Sr.; sisters Kenya Anderson (Christopher) and Katrina Griffin; brothers Raphael Rooks (Carole) and Thomas Jones; brothers-in-law Martellus Brown (Cassie) and Marcel Brown (Sharrion); father-in-law Marcus Brown; nieces, NaKhayla, Kennady, Teigan, Jasmine; nephews, Joshua, Jayden, Aiden, Deuce, Calvin, MJ, Jamari, Kamari, Mahkari, and a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Lula Mae Walker and Dorothy Rooks; grandfathers Buster Rooks and Ben Walker; uncles James E. Hullett and Wayne Rooks; aunts Juanita Hullett and Rita M. Hullett; and mother-in-law Kem D. Wilson Brown.
Kent had a passion for sports, especially as a devoted fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the University of Memphis basketball and football teams. He found joy coaching his grandson in football, basketball, and baseball. Whether spending time with his wife, kids, family, coworkers while working, or just relaxing at home watching action movies with loved ones, Kent brought energy and warmth to every moment.
Those who knew Kent remember him as a man of wisdom beyond his years-laid back yet strong in spirit-with a deep voice that carried both authority and kindness. He loved fiercely: God first, then family and friends-and especially complete strangers-with equal compassion. His life was a reflection of Christ's love: patient, giving, joyful.
Kent Ledell Rooks Jr., your legacy lives on through every life you touched. Your leadership at home was a gift beyond measure. You loved deeply-and were deeply loved in return. Until we meet again. May your memory be a blessing to all who knew you.
