Kendall Dykes

January 13, 1934 — July 25, 2025

Kendall Joseph Dykes, Sr. passed away on Friday, July 25, 2025. He was 91. Born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, to Paul and Willie (Pybas) Dykes, Kendall touched countless lives by his warmth, faith, humor and zest for life. Kendall overcame many challenges in his life. These included losing his mother at the age of 8, polio at the age of 17 and a quadruple bypass at the age of 55. Overcoming these challenges formed a character of strength and perseverance that served Kendall well throughout his life.

In 1954, Kendall married Betty Lewis, and together they raised three children, Kendy, Karen and Ken. Always a loving and supportive parent, grandparent and great grandparent, he was in regular attendance at all the activities of his family. Faith was central in Kendall's life followed by OU Sooners and OKC Thunder. He was a strong Christian leader serving as both deacon and elder in multiple church of Christ congregations. He was a member of the Downtown Bixby church of Christ. He began his professional career at Public Service of Oklahoma in Washita, OK, later transferring to the Riverside plant in Jenks, where he formed life-long friendships. After the death of his first wife, Kendall met Iris Severt of North Carolina online through a church of Christ dating site. After frequent trips getting to know each other, the couple wed in 2008.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Willie Dykes; his first wife, Betty Dykes; his daughter, Karen Edwards; and his brother, Paul Dykes. Kendall leaves behind a legacy of faith, determination, and family. He is survived by his wife, Iris Dykes; daughter, Kendy McWherter; son, Ken Dykes; and many grandchildren: Lauren Young, Lacy Dawson, Lainey Maples, Candice Graves, Taylor McWherter, Casey McWherter, Kendall Dykes III, Kelsea Greenfield, and Kassidy Benson. He also leaves behind many great-grandchildren, relatives, and dear friends. His grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.
