Venetta June Simpson

Venetta June Simpson, affectionately known to family and friends as "June" and "Sisi," passed away peacefully on September 18, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by her loving family, leaving behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and devotion to family and friends.

Born on May 14, 1952, in Memphis, Texas, June was the beloved daughter of Charles L. Morton Sr. and Ella Gene Speed Morton. As a child, she experienced a unique and adventurous upbringing, living in many places throughout the United States and abroad, including Roswell, New Mexico; Houston, Texas; Drummond, Montana; Port Harcourt, Nigeria; Antigua; Puerto Rico; and Marshall, Texas.

The family's travels ultimately led them to Tulsa, Oklahoma, through a remarkable twist of fate. While living in Puerto Rico, her father met several business associates in the Miami International Airport. They invited him to Tulsa to serve as General Manager of World Industries. The family accepted the opportunity and settled in Tulsa, where June established lifelong roots and became a cherished member of the community. She graduated from Jenks High School in 1971.

In 1975, June began her professional career on the switchboard at World Industries. She built an extraordinary 43-year career with the same company through its many transformations, including its evolution into Chicago Bridge & Iron (CB&I). In 1991, she was promoted to Manager of Pricing, Billing, and Traffic, a position she held until her retirement in 2018. By the end of her career, she oversaw billing operations for multiple fabrication facilities across the United States.

June made her home in Jenks, Oklahoma, where she was known for her warmth, strength, resilience, and deep love for those around her. Known as June to many and Sisi to those closest to her, she had a special gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and loved.

She is survived by her son, John Simpson of Dallas, Texas; her partner, Cecil Hartman; her brother, Marvin Morton and his wife, Dixie; her sister-in-law, Cassy Morton; her nephews, Bobby Morton of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Chip Morton of Houston, Texas; and her niece, Anna Morton Pettigrew. She also leaves behind extended family members, dear friends, and former colleagues who will cherish her memory.

June was preceded in death by her parents, Charles L. Morton Sr. and Ella Gene Speed Morton, and by her brothers, Charles "Charlie" Morton and Wayne Morton.

June will be remembered for her adventurous spirit, remarkable work ethic, unwavering loyalty, true grit, determination, and strong will. She faced life's challenges with courage and perseverance and leaves behind countless memories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life will be held at her beloved home on Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a memorial service beginning at 3:00 p.m., at 10695 S. Guthrie Avenue, Jenks, Oklahoma. Family and friends are invited to gather to honor June's life, share memories, and celebrate the love, laughter, and joy she brought to so many.
