Joseph “Joel” Frank Hoyt V passed away on March 16, 2026, at the age of 37 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was born on February 13, 1989, in Rogers, Arkansas, and was the cherished son of Joseph Frank Hoyt IV and Linda Sue (Lindsey) Hoyt.
Joel grew up in Oklahoma, where he built a life defined by curiosity, creativity, and deep friendships. He was a graduate of Cleveland High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Northeastern State University. His professional journey eventually led him into the IT field, where he was respected for his intelligence, thoughtful problem-solving, and calm, steady presence.
Joel threw himself wholeheartedly into everything he did—from disc golf and traditional golf to motorsports. He was always eager to learn something new or immerse himself in a fresh pursuit. Of his many interests, Joel had a genuine love for and a remarkable gift in cooking. Sharing his cooking with others was a lifelong source of pride for him.
But most of all, there was music. From guitar and trumpet to bass, the eras of Joel’s life can be defined by the different instruments he played. Alongside his friends and bandmates, David Akins and Derik Hefner, Joel was a member of Plastic Psalms, a staple of the Tulsa music scene. He was deeply proud of their time practicing, performing, and recording, as well as the albums they created together. In music, Joel found something sacred—it was where he experienced his deepest joy.
Everyone who knew him found new reasons to cherish him. Joel will be remembered for the laughter and joy he brought to others, and for his unwavering dedication to those he loved. He had an extraordinary ability to bring people together, cultivating friendships that were deep, loyal, and lasting. His life was rich with memories of music, meaningful conversations, and authentic connection—all of which will be treasured by those who loved him.
Joel is survived by his loving parents, Joseph Frank Hoyt IV and Linda Sue (Lindsey) Hoyt; his sibling, Eve; and many other relatives and dear friends who will miss him beyond words. His presence brought light, heart, and sincerity into the lives of so many. Though he is gone, the love he shared and the connections he fostered will endure. He will be deeply and forever missed.
