Janis Kaye Scott

February 16, 1941 — April 20, 2026

Janis Kaye Scott, Jan to her family and friends, age 85, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, in Glenpool, Oklahoma.

Born on February 16, 1941, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma, Janis was the cherished daughter of Eugene and Byrda Kuykendall. She carried with her throughout life the values of hard work, resilience, and compassion that were instilled in her from an early age.

Jan shared a meaningful chapter of her life with Richard Scott. Though they were married for only one year, their bond spanned a decade of companionship and love before his passing. She held his memory close to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Byrda Kuykendall; her beloved husband, Richard Scott; and her sister, Wahllel.

Jan leaves behind a loving family who will forever treasure her memory: her daughter, Nina Sherer and her spouse, John Morgan; and her adored grandchildren, Alysia, Carys, Belyn, Austin, and Leight; her sister, Stella Faye Dobson; and and a number of nieces and nephews. Each of them carries forward a piece of her strength, spirit, and enduring love.

A devoted educator, Jan dedicated 35 years of her life to teaching, from 1965 until her retirement in 2000. She took immense pride in her work and believed deeply in the power of education to shape lives. Her classroom was not just a place of learning, but one of encouragement, curiosity, and care. The impact she made on her students will continue to ripple through generations.

Jan lived life with energy and determination. In her younger years, she found joy in traveling and skiing-both on snow and water-embracing adventure with enthusiasm. Later, she found joy, peace, and creativity in tap dancing and knitting, crafting pieces that reflected her patience and love.

Those who knew Jan will remember her as feisty yet kind, stubborn yet deeply generous. She was fiercely independent and headstrong, never afraid to stand her ground, but always guided by a compassionate heart. Her passion for learning never faded, and she inspired others to remain curious and engaged with the world around them.

Janis Kaye Scott's life was one of purpose, strength, and love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
