Ira Boggs

August 17, 1940 — October 30, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ira Boggs, a well-known breeder of Aberdeen-Angus cattle, on October 30, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Ira was born on August 17, 1940, in Norman, Oklahoma, to Earl and Mamie (Stafford) Boggs. Ira's passion for Angus cattle began at a very young age and was active in the Cleveland County 4-H Club before attending Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. He had an exceptional knowledge of Angus pedigrees and the Angus community, making him one of the most respected figures in the industry.

Ira had tremendous knowledge of the Angus breed and was a natural at making matings that produced cattle that moved the breed forward. Ira Boggs enjoyed the friendship of the vast majority of Angus breeders around the world. He built an Angus program that was the envy of the industry. At the world-famous Palermo Show in Argentina, Leon Rubin and Ira Boggs bred and sold two bulls that were grand champions, the first and only time that American-bred Angus have won the prestigious show.

Ira is preceded in death by his parents Earl and Mamie, wife Lynda (Smith) Boggs, survived by a daughter Sonya Boggs (Paul Kettle-Napa, CA), and his sons Leland Boggs (Jodie Boggs-Martinsburg, WV), Charles "Ryan" Boggs (Katelyn Boggs-Sayre, PA), and his second wife Joanna (Papa) Boggs of West Virginia and his grandchildren Joshua Earl Boggs, Ava Marie Boggs, and Lawson Charles Boggs.

At the request of Ira, he was cremated and there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
