Hedwig Eva Lunday, age 93, known to many as "Heidi" passed away peacefully at the Glenpool Bee-Hive on September 7, 2026. Heidi was born February 9, 1933 in Haag, Oberbayern (Upper Bavaria, West Germany) to Hedwig and Georg Hadersberger. She grew up in Germany during World War II and was twelve years old when the war ended.
She had an adventurous spirit and, in 1955, traveled with a friend to Tripoli, Libya (North Africa) for a job opportunity with a German company, Where she utilized her clerical skills on a US airfare base. She met an American GI, Paul Lunday, in 1956, and they married in 1957, not speaking each other's language proficiently. They traveled the world together in the US Military, raising four children, and ended up in Oklahoma in 1973.
Throughout her life, Heidi was known for her incredible hospitality. She loved entertaining her extended family and cooking traditional German meals with extraordinary German desserts, instilling a deep appreciation for her heritage in everyone who sat at her table.
She is survived by her children, Georg (Sharla) Lunday, Kelli (John) Byrd, John (Kristen) Lunday, and Sean (Stephanie) Lunday, who were her proudest achievement, and her eleven grandchildren and precious great-grandchildren will carry her legacy of family and faith.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul A. Lunday, as well as her parents and her siblings. Though Heidi will be deeply missed, those who loved her can find comfort knowing that she is now in the presence of the Lord. May we all strive to be as strong, selfless, gracious, and loving.
Hedwig Lunday will be buried next to her husband, Paul Lunday. A graveside service will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Edmond, Oklahoma on October 2, 2026 at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made in Hedwig's memory to a charity of your choice.
