Glenn Hibdon

May 23, 1948 — August 27, 2025

Glenn Arthur Hibdon, age 77, passed away peacefully on August 27, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Glenn was born on May 23, 1948, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, to George and Glenda Hibdon. Glenn's mother taught business class at Jonesboro High School for many years. Glenn graduated from JHS and earned two bachelor degrees from ASU. From an early age, Glenn developed a love for reading and collecting-beginning with Hot Rod magazines at just nine years old. Over the years, his collection grew into a treasure of books and publications, including more than four decades of Sports Illustrated issues that he cherished.

In 1978, Glenn married the love of his life, Karen Brant, the daughter of teachers Walter and Faye Brant from Muldrow, Oklahoma. They first met while working together at the Southwest Times Record in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The following year, they moved to Tulsa, where Glenn began his 30 year career with the Tulsa World newspaper. Covering live sports events, he interviewed many big name sport stars to name a few like Wayne Gretzky, Pistol Pete Maravich, Lou Holtz, and drag racer Big Daddy Don Garlits. His coverage of Tulsa Oilers hockey team introduced Karen to the game of ice hockey-something they enjoyed together.

Although Glenn wasn't an athlete himself, he loved the spirit of competition and won many journalism awards both at state and national levels. He was known for his gift of storytelling, sharp sense of humor, and unwavering dependability. Friends and family could always count on him-whether for a laugh, a thoughtful story, or a helping hand. He adored his mother deeply, loved to travel, and above all, was Karen's closest companion and best friend.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, George Arthur and Glenda Hibdon, and his sister, Barbara Barnett. He is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Hibdon, his two beloved dogs, Happy and Prissy.

Glenn will be remembered for his love of books, love of life's adventures, and the joy he found in simple pleasures. His stories, laughter, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
