In Loving Memory of

James Al Wright

"Gingerbread"

July 11, 1950 - October 16, 2026

James Al Wright, known to family and friends as "Gingerbread," passed away peacefully at the age of 76 on October 16, 2026, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Though his passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him, his legacy of hard work, determination, and unforgettable personality will live on.

James was born at home in Harris, Oklahoma, on July 11, 1950, delivered by a midwife to his loving parents, Vernon Wright Sr. and Lillie B. (Golston) Wright. He grew up in Harris and graduated from Haworth High School in 1968, where he developed a lifelong passion for basketball. Known for his confidence and competitive spirit, James often declared, "I couldn't be beat."

After high school, James proudly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving his country for two years. He continued pursuing his passion for automobiles, earning a diploma in Auto Mechanic and Auto Machinist from the Oklahoma State University School of Technical Training in 1978. In 1991, he received additional certification in Computer Command Systems and Basic Fuel Injection and General Automotive Technician.

James worked at Otasco for several years before relocating to Tulsa, where he began a career at Zarrow Pointe. He dedicated 29 years of service to Zarrow Pointe before retiring in 2024, demonstrating a strong work ethic and commitment throughout his career.

James had a unique personality that could never be duplicated. He loved working on cars, reading, playing basketball, watching sports, and cooking his famous chili. He also enjoyed trips to the casino and was a fiercely loyal, die-hard University of Oklahoma Sooners fan. Whether sharing his love of sports or enjoying his favorite pastimes, James lived life in his own unmistakable way.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Wright Sr. and Lillie B. (Golston)Wright; his son, Billy Arnold Crawford; his sister, Verlene Moore of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and his brothers, Les Eugene Mosley of Harris, Oklahoma; Donell Wright of Idabel, Oklahoma; David Lee Murphy of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Vernon Wright Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma.

James leaves to cherish his memory his children: James Wright Jr. of Idabel, Oklahoma; Janice Wright Barnett and her husband, David, of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Ashley Wright Plummer and her husband, Joshua, of Baumholder, Germany; and Christian Wright of Idabel, Oklahoma.

He is also survived by his brother, Thomas Mosley and his wife, Detrice, of Idabel, Oklahoma; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who loved him dearly.

"Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal..."
