Dorothy Kamp Fite

February 21, 1934 — May 16, 2025

Dorothy Kamp Fite, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at the age of 91. Born on February 21, 1934, in Oklahoma City to Frederick William Kamp and Dorothy Thacker Kamp, Dorothy lived a full, vibrant, and compassionate life that left an indelible mark on everyone she knew and loved.

Dorothy was everyone's perfect mother and grandmother, whether she raised you or simply welcomed you into her heart. She was a caretaker by nature, a devoted listener, and a steadfast support to her countless friends and family. Dorothy was always ready to receive her loved ones with a warm smile, a hug... and a little glass of wine or Maker's Mark if anyone needed perking up. She was endlessly gracious and has been described as a model for how to live an exemplary life. Her hot meals made their way around town faster than Coleman could sample them, and her best recipes are still circulating. "Grano" never missed a tennis tournament, spelling bee, or celebration for her children or grandchildren. She gave them the peace and security that comes from being unconditionally loved.

She met the love of her life, Coleman Bartow Fite, while working in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She accepted a secretarial position there after graduating from the University of Oklahoma where she was the Alpha Chi Omega Psi Chapter President. She married Muskogee native Coleman on October 4, 1958, just three months after they met. After their wedding they lived in Calgary where Coleman was a geologist with Sunray Oil Company. They lived in Denver a short while before settling on a farm in Fort Gibson and eventually building a home in Muskogee. Theirs was a whirlwind love story that blossomed into decades of the truest partnership. Coleman remained her sweetheart and greatest champion until his death. Her intentional, devoted, yet easy ways of loving him set the standard for a happy marriage.

Dorothy was beautiful inside and out. Elegant, whip-smart, and effortlessly cool, she was the woman everyone wanted to be when they grew up. She was a peaceful and calm woman whose wisdom guided many. She played tennis in her younger years, enjoyed bird-watching later, and was a valuable amateur historian for her community. She loved a good bridge game and participating in PEO, Garden Club, and Keystone Book Club. Much of her heart lived at the river in Tahlequah, where she spent cherished time with family and friends at Sequoyah Club, Wauhillau Outing Club, and Swannanoa Ranch.

Dorothy was a dedicated parishioner of Grace Episcopal Church, where she served in the Women of Grace in various capacities for decades. She was patriotic, principled, and believed in always doing the right thing with kindness, grace, and style. Her warmth, humor, and boundless love made the world a better place. She was deeply loved, and her spirit lives on in the countless lives she touched.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Coleman Fite in 1999, her son, Coleman Bartow "Bart" Fite, Jr. in 2017, and her brothers Fred W. Kamp and Dr. Richard Kamp.

She is survived by her daughter Ann Fite of Tulsa, her grandchildren, Carleigh Fite (husband Damon Cassens) of Colorado Springs and Coleman Fite (wife Lauren Fite) of Tulsa, great-grandson Coleman "Case" Fite of Tulsa, step-grandchildren Cole Chapman and Victoria Chapman, and numerous Kamp and Fite nieces, nephews, and cousins.
