Dixie Ann Hathaway, 87, daughter of Marlowe and Iona Seitsinger was born in Kinross, Iowa on September 18, 1938 and passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Dixie grew up on the family cattle farm in Kinross, Iowa with her siblings Sherry, Ron and Ginger, a part of her life she carried with deep pride. The skills she learned in 4H during her youth became lifelong attributes. Though she later enjoyed her ventures beyond Iowa, she was, at heart, a country girl. Graduating from high school at the age of 16, Dixie proceeded to earn a teaching degree in early childhood education. At 18 years old Dixie had her first teaching position. Soon after college she met and married Dennis (Skip) Hathaway. Using her education and love for children, she started a preschool in their home. Before long they were blessed to grow their family and joyfully welcomed their son Greg and daughter Kathryn.
The following years Dixie was a super mom to Greg and Kathryn while they moved between Wisconsin, Minnesota, Pennsylvania and Oklahoma. The farm girl and consummate mother used her administrative skills working at her church and later rising as a corporate CEO administrative assistant. Though these were admirable accomplishments, in her words she was most proud of raising her children. The super mom was also a super Grammy. With so much love, she relished spending time with her grandchildren.
Dixie was a member of South Tulsa Baptist Church where she volunteered and raved about the sermons and music every Sunday. She was also a longtime volunteer in the community. Though she had a petite, feminine way about her, she had boundless energy, endurance and didn't shy from a challenge. She loved and excelled at gardening, crocheting, painting, and cooking. You could often find her enjoying thrift stores, weeding random flowerbeds, trimming back bushes and arranging flowers. Dixie was a loyal friend to many and generously offered help with anything including the best logical, free advice. Dixie's joy was one of simple pleasures. She left everything she touched prettier than she found it.
With family being her greatest love, she is survived by her son Greg Hathaway (Christy), daughter Kathryn Arrowood, grandchildren Tyler Arrowood, Madison Arrowood, Andrew Hathaway, Griffin Hathaway, Benjamin Hathaway, sisters Sherry Shain, Ginger Sheetz, brother Ron Seitsinger (Sheryl), five great grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces. Preceding family members include her mom Iona and dad Marlowe, brother-in-law Bob Shain, brother-in-law Jim Sheetz and sister-in-law Nancy Seitsinger.
