Darrell Dee Spurgeon

October 6, 1949 — March 26, 2022

Darrell Spurgeon of Kiefer, OK, passed away at his residence on March 26, 2022, at the age of 72.

Darrell Dee Spurgeon was born to George Spurgeon and Goldie (Nichols) Spurgeon on October 6, 1949, in La Junta, CO.

He grew up spending his free time in the great outdoors, hunting and fishing. He and his brother, Bud, were team ropers on the pro-rodeo circuit. Darrell joined the U.S. Army, once he was of age, where he was trained as a sniper. After completing his time in the military, he began his career as a truck driver. He worked for many years until his retirement at Green Acres Sod Company. Darrell was a devoted employee, but his deepest devotion was to his wife, Jeannette (Newberry) Spurgeon. They were married on July 31, 1980, in Miami, OK. Darrell and Jeannette were each other's best friend and enjoyed each other's company. They loved fishing, camping, and playing BINGO. Darrell loved the neighborhood cats and any strays that showed up on his front porch. It was after Darrell's retirement, that he became a crossing guard at Kiefer Public Schools. To him, it wasn't a job but something that brought him great joy. He will be missed greatly.

Darrell is preceded in death by his parents; George and Goldie Spurgeon, siblings; Bob, David, Sylvia, and Bud.

He is survived by his wife; Jeannette Spurgeon of the home, siblings; Sonny and Jessie, children; Monica Montgomery and husband Ken, Richard Marcotte, Alisha Marcotte, and Jay Gilmore and his fiancée, Ashton, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

No services are planned at this time.

Arrangements entrusted to Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service, 719 E. 141st Street, Glenpool, OK 74033. Family and friends may leave condolences
