Connie Ann Collier (Smith) of Glenpool, Oklahoma, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023, at the age of 70 years. Connie was born on October 31, 1952, in Aurora, Colorado, to her loving parents, Waymon and Roseann Smith.
Connie's journey through life was marked by her unwavering faith and resilience. She had a deep and abiding relationship with Christ, having surrendered her life to Him at a young age. Her strong Christian convictions were a guiding force throughout her life, and she was an active member of Central Baptist Church in Aurora, Colorado, where she met her future husband, Garvin, at the age of 14.
At just 16, Connie faced the challenge of being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, a battle she shared with a close friend. Her father's caring nature shone through as he doted on the girls, making them soda and ice cream. Connie continued to navigate the complexities of living with insulin-dependent diabetes, displaying immense courage and strength.
After graduating from Hinkley High School in Aurora, Connie embarked on a career as a Medical Assistant, working in various healthcare settings. She excelled in her field, demonstrating remarkable dedication by being the first to arrive and the last to leave. Her exceptional typing skills, at over 120 words per minute, made her an invaluable asset in managing the office's busy schedules.
As time passed, Connie and Garvin grew closer, despite the ten-year age difference. Their love story culminated in marriage on June 10, 2007, at the Redeemer Baptist Church in Aurora, a church they played a pivotal role in founding. Garvin's work as the General Contractor on the church project was a testament to their shared dedication. Over the next decade, they shared a remarkable marriage filled with adventures, laughter, tears, and countless cherished memories. They particularly enjoyed 4-wheeling in their beloved Toyota truck.
The couple eventually relocated to a beautiful home on 10 acres in Mounds, Oklahoma, where they continued to build a life together. However, Connie's health took a turn after a heart attack in 2015, leading to complications and multiple surgeries. She could no longer manage the stairs in their home, necessitating a move to Glenpool.
Despite her health challenges, Connie made friends easily and was beloved by everyone she met. She found joy in stamping, creating intricate greeting cards with cutting machines. One of the great joys in her life was her beloved dog, Penelope, a cherished companion throughout her journey.
In the month of October, Connie's health deteriorated, leading to several hospitalizations and stays at various healthcare facilities. She spent her last moments at Clarehouse, where she found peace.
Connie is survived by her loving husband, Garvin, and her memory lives on in the hearts of her friends and family.
A visitation and viewing in memory of Connie will be held on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10:00 AM. The services will take place at Schaudt's Glenpool-Bixby Funeral Service, 1329 East 151st St. Glenpool, OK 74033.
