Benton LeRoy Hanan

Oct 11, 1936 — Jul 6, 2026

Benton LeRoy Hanan, 89, of Tulsa, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2026. He was born on October 11, 1936 in Enid, Oklahoma, to Lawrence "Doc" and Cleta Hanan.

Ben lived a life defined by hard work, unwavering loyalty, and an incredible love for his family. An accomplished electrical engineer, he worked for Telex Computer Products which later became Telex/Memorex in Tulsa, retiring as their VP of Quality Control. He approached every challenge with determination, intelligence, and a remarkable ability to solve problems. If something was broken, Ben could fix it. His hands were rarely still, and his skill, craftsmanship, and ingenuity left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. Whether he was repairing a vehicle, building something from scratch, or lending a helping hand, Ben took pride in doing things the right way.

More than anything, Ben was devoted to his family. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, trusted confidant, and steady source of strength. He believed in the value of honesty, responsibility, and a strong work ethic, leading by example every day of his life. His children and grandchildren admired him not only for what he accomplished, but for the kind, dependable, and generous man he was.

His grandchildren will forever cherish memories of gathering around the table for his delicious homemade pancakes, having his support at their ball games and events, sharing stories, laughter, and the love that made every visit special. Ben also enjoyed spending time outdoors, where he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a lifelong fan of the Oklahoma Sooners and the New York Yankees, rarely missing an opportunity to cheer on his favorite teams. A larger-than-life man in both stature and spirit, Ben's quiet strength, wisdom, and gentle heart made him someone his family could always count on.

He is survived by his beloved significant other of many years Peggy Carroll; children Veronica Gregory (Nyronn), Greg Chapman (Betsy), Gary Chapman (Mary), and Robyn Harper (Gary); his grandchildren Lauren Chapman (Sarah Kidd), Andrew Chapman (Mary), Jake Chapman (Morgan), Sam Chapman (Madison), Cody Chapman, Garrett Chapman, Austin Chapman, Elizabeth Harper (Rochelle Lunsford), and David Harper; his eight great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence "Doc" and Cleta Hanan; beloved wife Ann Hanan; granddaughter Rachel Stevens-Respicio; brother and sister-in-law Cliff and Lois Hanan; niece Karen Hanan Wood; son Ben Hanan Jr.; and other loved ones who welcomed him home.

Ben's legacy is one of love, integrity, hard work, and unwavering devotion to his family. He taught those around him the importance of keeping your word, helping others, and never being afraid to get your hands dirty. Though his presence will be deeply missed, the lessons he taught, the memories he created, and the love he shared will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
