Afton Leo Stafford €œSonny€ age 77, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, January 8, 2006 at the Highland Manor in Okmulgee, OK. He will be remembered as the most wonderful Daddy on earth and adored Papa by his grandchildren.
Mr. Stafford was born May 29, 1928 in Wetumka, OK to Leo €œDoug€ Douglas Stafford and Fannie Hurt. He attended schools in Morris, OK before enlisting in the United States Army. He served his country with honor for 21 years 2 months and 23 days before retiring as a Sergeant First Class. Mr. Stafford fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars; he was injured in the line of duty, and received the Purple Heart.
Mr. Stafford resided in Morris, Oklahoma for most of his life where he lived for 77 years. In 1957 Afton married Minnie Smith and from this union three children were born. Mr. Stafford married Josie Mae Fisher on June 3, 1980. He most recently worked as a batch man for Okmulgee Redi-Mix until retirement.
Mr. Stafford enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends telling jokes.
Sonny was preceded in death by his father; Leo Stafford, his mother; Fannie Hurt, one brother and one sister.
Mr. Stafford is survived by his wife, Josie Mae Stafford of Morris, OK; daughters: Dianna Robbins and her husband, Mike of Glenpool, OK; Lorrienda Stafford of Glenpool, OK; step-daughter: Vicki Been of Okmulgee, OK; son: Doug Stafford and his wife, Shelly of Glenpool, OK; step-son: Charles Stone of Morris, OK; sisters: Alma Whitaker of Morris, OK and Ila Mae Cobb of Okmulgee, 6 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2006 from 12:00 p.m. til 8:00 p.m.
Graveside service will be 2:00 p.m. January 11, 2006 at the Morris Cemetery, Morris, OK with the Rev. Brian Williams officiating.
Arrangements were entrusted to Daniel C. Schaudt of Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service & Cremation Care.
