Willie Wright

January 10, 1937 — November 29, 2020

Mr. Willie (Bill) Wright was born to the proud parents of the late Mr. Joseph and Mrs. Cassie Wright on January 10, 1937, in Fort Motte, South Carolina. He peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday, November 29, 2020, at The Villages of Southern Hills in Tulsa, OK.

In 1940, the family moved to Washington, D.C. where Willie received his education at the DC Public and trade schools. He started driving his father’s truck at the age of 16 and pursued training and work in auto mechanics.

Using the knowledge and skills that his dad had taught him at a very young age, he moved on into home improvement and remodeling. He was a self-employed contractor with skills in masonry, concrete, carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, HVAC, roofing, landscaping, and installation of windows, flooring, cabinets, lighting, and siding. He passed his skills and knowledge on to his sons when they were young, also. He loved using his hands to build canes, home bars, and doing furniture re-upholstery.

He was a loving father. The neighborhood children loved him and called him Bill. He would give out snacks/food to the children and the homeless.

Willie was truly loved and will be sadly missed by all. His love for singing brought joy into many people live.

He leaves mourning his passing: 2 sons, Stanley and Willie Wright, Jr.; 2 daughters, Germaine Wright Kargbo and Leia Teresa Wright; 1 sister, Rose Wright; 1 brother, Joseph Wright; 5 grandchildren, Charmaine Garrett, Sanpha Kargbo, Ronald Kent, Katrina Phillips, and Neko Wright; 4 great grandchildren; a devoted friend, Martha Doxley; a special niece, Jovon McInnis; and a host of family and friends.
