William Milton Brumbaugh

January 27, 1930 — June 16, 2018

William Milton Brumbaugh taught us many lessons during his 88 years, among them: find meaningful work and do it well, always offer your guests a drink from the bar, go out and see the world, and count your blessings daily.

Bill died on June 16, 2018, in his home in Tulsa. His family wants the world to know how much they loved him and that he will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Carol Brumbaugh. Together they ran businesses, raised children, traveled the world, volunteered, and found countless ways to enjoy life.

Raised in Coldwater, KS, Bill was the son of the late William and Hazel Brumbaugh. The family moved to Tulsa when Bill was 15 years old. A graduate of Will Rogers High School and the University of Tulsa Law School, Bill worked in mortgage banking, property development, and property management. In 1975, with his business partner, John Fulton, he purchased Mager Mortgage Company, the oldest mortgage banking company in Oklahoma. It was later renamed Brumbaugh & Fulton Company. Bill was very proud of the work he did to help Oklahomans become homeowners. He also founded Tallasi Land & Development Company and Prestige Management, Ltd.

Serving the community was important to Bill. He served his alma mater as the President of the University of Tulsa Alumni Association. He ushered for more than 40 years at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, where he was proud to assist the regular church goers on his aisle and to welcome newcomers. Bill served his industry as the President of the Oklahoma Mortgage Bankers Association. He also volunteered regularly at the Food For Kids program in Okmulgee County.

Bill loved to travel and was always ready to pack his bags for the next adventure. Together, Bill and Carol visited 30 states and 25 countries on four continents. Bill spent much of his leisure time on the golf course at Oaks Country Club, where he was a member for more than 50 years.

Always the gracious host, Bill loved entertaining friends and family. He insisted on greeting guests at the door, even when that became difficult for him. He loved to be behind the bar, making sure everyone had their favorite drink.

Bill lived life well and he was thankful every day for his many blessings.

In addition to his wife, Carol, Bill is survived by his daughter, Traci Desautels and her husband, Mason Miller of Huntersville, NC and their children, Lauren, Blake, Keyes, and MacRae; son, Jeff Stephens and his wife, Teresa of Broken Arrow; daughter, Jill Deutscher and her husband, Brad of Tulsa and their sons, Thomas and Michael; son, Joey Brumbaugh of Tulsa; son-in-law, Wayne Kenner of Gulf Shores, AL; mother-in-law, Margaret Rose Mills Guckes of Tulsa; grandson, Justin Bell and his wife, Alicia of Blytheville, AR and their son, William Hayes, due in July; sister-in-law, Holly Barris and her husband, Rob of Okmulgee; brother-in-law, George Rose and his wife, Karen of Tulsa; and niece, Jennifer Robinson and her husband, Jeremiah of Kiefer. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne Kenner, and his nephew, Tyler Barris. Services for Bill will be held on Wednesday, June 20th , at 11:00 AM in the Rose Chapel at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, 1301 S. Boston in Tulsa.
