We were blessed to have our loving mother for nearly 94 years and what a wonderful life it was. Virginia was a lover of life and enjoying it to the fullest. She loved children, people, nature and all types of animals. Mom had particularly strong affection for dogs of all varieties, especially her Borzoi. She was the consummate dog lover. Mom was always ready for an adventure and was willing to try almost anything from spelunking to hot air ballooning. She never missed a Kentucky Derby and always did so while wearing an outrageous hat! Our mother was a strong-willed, engaging and loving woman that taught us so many things about life.

Mom’s life was an adventure. She lost her parents early in her life. As an only child she was forced to quickly learn how to fend for herself without her parent’s support. During the course of adolescence, she lived with various relatives in several places until she met and married our father in Fairmount, IN. Mom traveled far and wide. She lived in many places and pursued a number of varied careers from teacher of ecology and oceanography, Building Manager of the Unitarian Church of Princeton, NJ to chef at the Princeton University Terrace Club. She had so many wonderful friends over the years. She loved everyone and was truly loved by so many people. She did not see race, religion or sexual orientation, she saw love, she saw caring and humanity all while seeing the hardest of times she held her head high and powered through with fierce tenacity.

We mourn her passing. We will greatly miss her charm, whit, smile and love. We will always hold dearly in our hearts the memory of a kind, strong and caring mother who wanted the very best for her children.

Rest in peace dear mother. We love you so much.
