Vernon Woodward Ables passed away Saturday, March 26, 2022 at his home in Glenpool, OK with his loving family by his side, he was 78 years old.

Vernon was born in Hampton, Arkansas on June 4, 1943 to his parents, Preston Woodward Ables and Lillian Jane Ables (Straton). Vernon graduated from Hampton High School in 1960. He met the love of his life Carolyn Wake while attending church and after a brief courtship they married August 19, 1961. They were married 60 years. They together pastored seven churches over the span of 47.5 years. Vernon loved people like very few could. He felt a calling to serve churches families that were fractured or broken. He loved people for who they were, not for what they had or their prominence . Vernon's life revolved around family. He would not tolerate conflict or division. If he knew his sons or grandkids were coming to visit, he would sit in front of the window in his home for hours waiting impatiently. If you were running five minutes late, you should expect a phone call.

Vernon Ables lived what he preached every single day. He lived his life on Monday, exactly, how he lived it on Sunday.

For the last few years, he struggled with Alzheimer's. Even though he fought a terrible disease, he never lost his sense of humor or love for his family.

Vernon is survived by his wife, Carolyn of Glenpool, OK; two sons, Greg and his wife, Tina of Bixby, OK and Woody and his wife, Lana of Heber Springs, AR; Granddaughters: Whitley Burr, Hayley Day and her husband Patrick; grandson, Parker Ables and his wife, Steilee; great grandchildren Mecklin, Axler, and Timber. The apple of his eye was his three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, he was in later years, known as "Poppie" and lived up to that title.

He is preceded in death by his parents and six siblings.
