Vera Burkett

Vera Lorraine Burkett age 94 passed away Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Glennwood Healthcare Center in Glenpool, Oklahoma.

She was born September 11, 1920 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma to Odie Bridgewater and Mary Beatrice Kay (Rhoden) Bridgewater. She graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1938. In 1941 she married her first husband, Arthur Melburn Wing who passed away at an early age. Vera married Kenneth Burkett in Tulsa, Oklahoma and they were married for forty-four years. Vera was a homemaker and played the piano by ear and loved to read. Her favorite holiday was Christmas and she would start decorating before Thanksgiving. Vera was a member of Beggs First Assembly Church.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents: Odie and Mary Bridgewater, her brother, Orval Bridgewater, her sisters, Aileen Hunter and Virglee Whitlock and her brother, Howard Bridgewater.

She is survived by her daughters: Melba Gillispie and her husband, James, of Jenks, Frances Rhine and her husband, Arthur, of Tulsa, her son, James Wing and his wife, Patty of Owasso, brothers: Odie Bridgewater, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Horace Eugene Bridgewater of Grove, her sister: Leda Messer of Wagoner, her stepchildren: Kenneth Burkett, Paulette Ewing, Diane Burkett, Mary Ann Pace, Brian Kissinger, thirteen grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers are: Clay Brown, Eric Gillispie, Rod Reddick, Greg Burkett, Earle Shambin, Josh Contreras.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at Schaudt's Glenpool Funeral Service Chapel. Pastor Robert Yandell will officiate. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
