Twyla Jan Wilson was born August 29, 1953 in Talihina, OK and passed on to her new life on September 1, 2020. She was the second child to Mae Wilson. She grew up in Smithville, OK, where she completed her k-12 schooling and graduated with the Class of 1972. She then began her college years at the University of Oklahoma.

She received her Master’s Degree from OU, which she used to work at various schools, with her last one being employed at Arizona State University in Tempe. Upon retirement in 2010, she returned to live with and care for her mother in Okmulgee, OK, where she happily lived until her passing. Twyla was known as a talented craftswoman, she has created many beautiful pieces of beadwork. Besides her love for beading, she also had a great passion for everything OU Sooners, Coffee, cooking huge holiday meals, Mickey Mouse, and watching Korean Soap Operas. A lifelong educator and crusader of Native rights, she taught others to be empowered through their faith in God, and that all endeavors are possible.

Twyla is preceded in death by her mother, Mae, her brother Alvin Wilson in 2003, and many other close relatives. She also leaves behind her only son Adrian, of the home and one elder uncle Curtis Wilson of Seminole; also sisters Phyllis and Rex Blackbear of Watonga, and Teresa and Sidney Witherspoon of Tulsa. Nieces are Celeste, Katt and husband Todd, Janna and husband Gully, Melissa and husband Scott, Millie and husband Corey, and Amelia; nephews are Vincent, Miles, Nigel, Noah, and Amos. Her grandchildren include Terra, Korra, Mellani, Gavin, Carmen, Landon, MaeLeina, Paden and Kendall, Elijah, Kialynn and Trenton.
