Obituary for Tony Wayne Hodges

A memorial service will be held honoring and remembering the life of Tony Wayne Hodges on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at 12 noon at Schaudt's Tulsa Funeral Service Chapel. A celebration of life reception will follow the service.

Tony unexpectedly left this world on Monday, December 3, 2018 with his family by his side. He was 64.

Tony was born on September 9, 1954 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Peggy and Joseph Hodges but spent his childhood growing up in San Diego, CA. He graduated from high school in 1972 and continued his education at University of San Diego on a baseball scholarship.

On December 26, 1998 in Tulsa, Oklahoma he married the love of his life, Joni Marie (Hackett) Hodges.

Tony was an entrepreneur. Together with his father and brother they founded Hodges Quality Meats in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1976. In 2000 he founded Midwest Food Services, Inc. with his wife Joni.

Tony was an avid soccer fan who coached and inspired many young athletes including his two children, Blake and Ali. In 1993 he co-founded Blitz United Soccer Club, Tulsa’s first premier soccer league for girls. Tony went on to coach at the Tulsa Soccer Club. In 1998, he received recognition from the Governor of Oklahoma and the House of Representatives for coaching the first girls’ team in Oklahoma to make it to the national soccer finials. He cherished all the relationships he formed with parents, players and other coaches.

Tony had a gentle soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand for those in need. He was kind, considerate and a volunteer in the community. One of Tony's greatest gifts was his sense of humor. He could make anyone laugh and even find humor in his weakest moments. It filled Tony with joy to make others laugh and smile. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents, Peggy (Ivey) Hodges and Joseph Hodges.

Survivors include his loving wife, Joni Marie (Hackett) Hodges; son, Blake Edward Hodges, his wife Aly and their children, Carson and Dylan Hodges of Englewood, CO; daughter, Alison Jo Hodges of Tulsa, OK. He leaves a brother, Michael Hodges, his wife Sandy and their children, Michelle, Stephanie and David of Coweta, OK; a sister, Patrice Hodges-Bellis, her husband, Erik of Sand Springs and son, Austin Goodson and his wife Erica of Wagoner, OK; an aunt and uncle, Peggy and Bill Ivey of Muskogee, OK and niece and nephews, Kenda Laley Stevenson, Michael Laley and Chris Laley.

The family would like to thank the staff of St. John's Medical Center Adult Intensive Care Unit for their care.
