Ruthette Swift

Ruthette (Lassiter) Swift passed away Tuesday evening, January 19, 2021, in Tulsa, OK at the age of 91 years. Ruthette was born on July 24, 1929 in Abilene, TX to her parents, Seaborn and Ola (Parker) Lassiter.

Ruthette was a member of the 1947 graduating class of Abilene High School. She attended Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene. While at Hardin-Simmons she was active in the Colts Club, the Life Service Band, the Future Teachers of America organization and a member of the Pi Gamma Mu Sorority. Ruthette was a member of the graduating class of 1951 and was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary Education and a minor in Sociology. She taught grade school in Brownfield and Denver City, Texas.
She met the love of her life, Custer Darnell Swift, on a blind date and they were married on June 13, 1954. They lived in Denver City, Texas until 1982 when, upon retirement, they moved to Comanche, TX. Custer was a rancher, and they were both members of the First Baptist Church of Comanche.  

She is preceded in death by her parents, Seaborn and Ola Lassiter; sister, Mary Lassiter Schmidt; and her loving husband, Custer, who died Friday, January 30, 2004.
Ruthette is survived by a brother, Donald Lassiter of Hewitt, TX; nieces, Deborah Schmidt Maples of Coffeyville, KS, Donna Schmidt Blumer of Parsons, KS, Krista Lassiter Phillips of San Antonio, TX, Gina Lassiter Minshew of Ft. Pierce, FL, Sherry Smith O’Kelly of San Antonio, TX, Nancy Swift Weismann of Waco, TX, and Kandice Swift Simmons of Tulsa, OK; nephews, Alan Lassiter of Knoxville, TX, Terry Lassiter of Waco, TX, and Charles Swift of Junction, TX.

Ruthette was cremated and will be interred next to her husband, Custer Darnell Swift in the Rising Star Cemetery in Rising Star, Texas at a later date.
