Pamela Pualani Murphy

October 18, 1938 — January 28, 2023

Pamela Pualani Murphy went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2023 at the age of 84. Pamela was born on October 18, 1938 in Honolulu, Hawaii to William Edwin Hutchinson and Jean Helen Meyasaki Hutchinson, who passed away when Pam was just a baby.

Later her father married Kimiyo Funamori and she raised Pam as her own. The family continued to live in Hawaii for several years. The family later moved to Japan where her father worked as a USIS Information Agent for the US government. During this time Pam got to meet the Prime Minister of Japan, what an honor and Pam loved to tell the story of that day.

As a young child growing up in Japan, Pam spoke fluent Japanese. She was even asked to be a translator at a young age. Pam and her family moved to Maryland where Pam finished high school.

After high school, Pam joined the Women's Army Corporation. During this time, Pam met Robert Harley and before long, they were married. Robert and Pam went on to have five boys.

Following the divorce of Robert and Pam, Pam and the boys moved to Okmulgee, Oklahoma where Robert's family lived.

Pam struggled to raise five boys alone, but it made her the strong, independent woman she was. After getting the boys raised, Pam was able to continue her education at Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology. During this time, Pam married O.W. Murphy. Not long after, Pam and O.W. welcomed a daughter, Amber, into the family.

Pam graduated from OSUIT top of her class with a 4.0 GPA. Pam majored in secretarial science and shorthand. After graduation, she went to work for the State of Oklahoma at the George Nigh Rehabilitation Center, where she later retired.

After retirement, Pam enjoyed spending time with her family and especially the loves of her life, the grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She also loved her dogs and cats, working in the garden, and exercising with her class at the YMCA, the Silver Sneakers. To know Pam was to love her. She was feisty, but she had a heart of gold and will be greatly missed, but forever in our hearts.

Pam leaves behind her children, Robert and Dana Harley of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Arthur and Rhonda Harley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Michael Harley of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Jeffrey Harley of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Amber Murphy of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, 18 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. Two brothers - William Edwin Hutchinson III of Junction City, Kansas, Harvey Atwood Hutchinson of Daphne, Alabama, and a sister Penelope Cochran Lilly of Germantown, Maryland.

Pam is preceded in death by her son Clifford Scott Harley and grandson Brandon Harley.
