Mary Randy Thompson

March 12, 1921 — May 6, 2019

A service to honor and celebrate the life of Randy Thompson will be held 2:00PM Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Southern Hills Baptist Church with Dr. William L. Hester officiating. Randy passed from this life May 6, 2019 with her family by her side, she was 98.

Randy was born on March 13, 1921, the third of four children, to James V. & Eula Morine Morton in Duvall, Oklahoma. At the age of two she moved to Sayre, Oklahoma where she grew up with her family: one sister & two brothers. Randy enjoyed life in this small town with many friends. As a Senior at Sayre High School in 1939 Randy was voted Homecoming Queen. After graduation Randy attended Sayre Junior College and became proficient at shorthand and typing which led to the opportunity of working as a court reporter for the Sayre District Attorney at age 20. She met & eventually married the father of her children, H. L. Josh Joslin on May 11, 1941.

From 1941-1962, Randy & Josh made their home in Oklahoma City, where their three children were born. Randy enjoyed raising her children, volunteering in the church & at school, sewing for her children & creating a loving atmosphere in their home.

In 1962 Josh’s work took the family to Okmulgee, Oklahoma. It wasn’t long before Randy started working as the Court Reporter for Judge John Maley holding the position for approximately 23 years. During this time she was active in the PTA, First United Methodist Church, the Okmulgee County Guidance Center & was a member of the State Mental Health Board. Randy & Josh became avid golfers & thoroughly enjoyed their time on the course with friends. In 1983 Josh left her side to be with Jesus.

Randy married Charlie Thompson on June 26, 2001 at 80 years of age. They had attended school together in Sayre, since the 2nd grade. They enjoyed many friendships & OSU football, living in Stillwater until moving to Tulsa, due to his health, in 2005. At 88 Charlie passed away, with Randy at his side. Randy was blessed with loving relationships with his five children.

Since his passing & until her death, Randy continued to attend Southern Hills Baptist Church & Celebrate Recovery, but her greatest joy in service was in going to the Eddie Warrior Correctional Center on Sundays to minister to women who were turning their lives to Christ. Her love for her family & desire to be with them, share birthdays, shop with her daughters, swim with grandkids & golf with her son & sons-in-law remained the reason she would always tell you she is “the MOST blessed person”…

Randy is survived by: daughter Norma Joslin Murphy & husband Steve, Tulsa; son Dan Joslin & wife Sue, Oklahoma City; & daughter Mary Anne Joslin Dangott & husband Bill, Okmulgee, 10 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces & nephews who love her deeply.
