Marian Jo Clark

September 8, 1934 — November 16, 2017

Marian Jo Wilson Clark, surrounded by her husband, children, and grandchildren, passed from this world to the next on the morning of November 16th, 2017.

Marian was born September 8th, 1934 to Bob and Mabel Wilson in Hereford, Texas. She followed in the footsteps of her mother and two aunts by earning a Home Economics degree from Texas Tech University in 1957. She later was awarded the Texas Home Economist of the year.

Working as a high school teacher in Odessa, Texas, she met and married Ken Clark in 1963. After living in Berkeley, California and Midland, Texas, the couple settled in Tulsa to raise their two children, Rebecca and Kevin.

Marian was a dedicated mother who postponed her career to become the hub of her dynamic family. She started and led a Bluebird and Camp Fire group where she influenced the growth of Rebecca and many other young women. She became a host-mother to Philippe Kempinaire, an exchange student from Belgium, who calls her “Mam” to this day.

Marian had a passion for genealogy and family history. She began her writing career combining her loves of food and history with her first book, THE SOUTHWESTERN HERITAGE COOKBOOK. In 1990 she found her life’s passion traveling and exploring Route 66 and the people that made it special. She authored three books including stories and recipes: THE ROUTE 66 COOKBOOK, THE MAIN STREET OF AMERICA COOKBOOK, and HOGS ON 66, co-authored with Michael Wallis, with over 150,000 copies sold.

Marian was an active volunteer in Camp Fire Girls, The Salvation Army, the Tulsa Historical Society, Philbrook Museum, Green Country Home Economists, and Habitat for Humanity. She was inducted into the Oklahoma Route 66 Hall of Fame in 2014 and was recognized by the Oklahoma legislature for her books on Route 66.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Ken Clark; daughter, Rebecca and her husband, Jason Barnes; son, Kevin and his wife, Lori Clark; grandchildren, Megan and Andrew Barnes, and Bradley and Haley Clark.

Marian is preceded in death by her parents, Mabel and Bob Wilson; and brother, Richard Wilson.
