Leota Mahauta Mcguire

January 31, 1915 — September 1, 2018

“Keep Busy” was the advice Leota Mahauta McGuire gave to anyone younger than her 103 years of life. Leota led a very busy life from her birth January 31, 1915 in Okmulgee to parents Daniel Jefferson McGuire and Ollie Oaks McGuire until her death September 1, 2018 at the Plantation House in Okmulgee where she resided.

Leota graduated from the University of Oklahoma in Norman and then became an OU Assistant Professor. Turning her hobby skills of doll making into a vocation she made dolls for an Oklahoma City Department Store. One of her collections was an entire Wedding Party consisting of 1 ¾ inch dolls. A collection of Leota’s dolls are on display in the Oklahoma City Historical Museum.

Leota was also musically inclined and played the piano and accordion. Her favorite artist was Reba McIntire. Miss Leota loved to dance. In fact she taught dance for many years and was dancing right into her 103rd birthday party. Earlier this year Leota was awarded the OKALA Oldest Assisted Living Resident of the Year Award. No doubt she celebrated with her favorite food … KFC.

Preceding Leota in death were her parents and Sister Edna Mae McGuire.

She is survived by cousins: Judy Schulze of Nacogdoches, TX., Virginia Wegner of Houston, Dr. David Anderson of Las Vegas, NV., Kay Johnson of Olympia, WA., and Barry Beard of San Marcos, Tx. The family would also like to express their gratitude to Mildred Dalcour for such loving companionship and care of Leota for the past several years.

A memorial graveside service will be Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11:00 AM in the Okmulgee Cemetery. Reverend Roland Youngberg will officiate. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donation be made to First United Methodist Church of Okmulgee or the charity of their choice.

Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Funeral Service and Cremation Care. Friends may view the obituary; send memories and condolences to the family at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
