Kathleen Diane Hammersla

January 22, 1950 — December 31, 2018

Kathleen Diane Hammersla passed away with loving family by her side on December 31, 2018, at the age of 68 years. She was born in 1950 in Minneapolis, MN to her now deceased parents, Howard and Helen (Hawkins) Bates.

After graduating from North High, she completed a Bachelor’s Degree in accounting from Mankato State. Marriage to Roy, the father of her children, took her around the country and world. When she became the sole breadwinner of the family she worked as an Administrative Assistant for the Federal Government. Marriage to Carter Hammersla in 1996, with a honeymoon cruise to the Caribbean, led to a more settled life that she had longed for, and gave her space to obtain a Masters Degree in Information Systems Management from Potomac College, Washington, D.C.

Grandchildren and cats (the same species in her heart) were the center of her life. Kathie loved Broadway shows and musicals, enjoyed reading, watching old TV shows. Anyone who knew Kathie marveled at her skill with crochet and she wore out many crochet hooks creating dolls, hats, mittens, and prayer shawls for those in need of comfort. Singing in the church choir was another outlet for her spiritual devotion.

Among those mourning her loss are husband, Carter Hammersla; her children Eric Mein (Lisa), Becki Mein (Gloria), Heather Koch (Mike); grandchildren, Sarah, Erika and Christopher Koch, Edison and Saxon Mein (Grandchild); as well as her brother Michael Bates (Jenny); sisters, Sandra Bates, Nancy Anderson (Dennis); as well as many other loving relatives.

Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt's Funeral Service. Family and friends may send memories and condolences to the family online at www.schaudtfuneralservice.com.
