Julie Jaye Sheats

September 16, 1963 — April 26, 2021

Julie Sheats was born on September 6, 1963 in Wichita, Kansas to Edith (Henderson) Cunningham and Joe Erwin. She passed away on April 26, 2021 in Tulsa at the age of 57. Growing up Julie always had a ton of friends. Boys, boys & more boys! Her cousins taught her to drive at age 11, you know who you are! Julie was a member of the Jenks High School High Kickers. She was a graduate of Jenks High School Class of 1981. Julie attended the University of Oklahoma & eventually obtained her BA degree in Education at the University of Tulsa.

In June of 1988 Julie married the love of her life Jerry Sheats in Jenks, Oklahoma at River Oaks Christian church. Four years later they gave birth to their daughter Kristen Sheats. Julie was a teacher for 31 years for the Sapulpa Public Schools. She started out at Washington Elementary where she made lifelong friends including both teachers & students. In 2012 Holmes Park Elementary was built. She spent the rest of her teaching career there changing so many lives. There was never a holiday or special time of year that all of the kids didn't get what they needed. She thought of many of them as her own.

Julie loved going on family vacations. Especially to Disney world & Western Hills. She loved spending holidays with her family and friends. Her favorite tradition was going to her sister's house for the yearly 4th of July pool party. She loved decorating for Christmas, there was not an inch of the house that was not covered in decorations. She would even keep her Christmas tree up all year long. She loved to dress up on Halloween in some of the most ridiculous costumes with her co-workers & friends. She enjoyed kicking back & listening to 80's classic rock music. If there was a rock concert in town, you can bet she was there! She loved attending concerts & events like WWE wrestling with her daughter & family members. Her favorite tv shows were crime shows, The masked singer, American Idol and America's Got Talent. Julie loved going to local Estate sales with her daughter Kristen. She also loved spending her time and money at local casinos. Her favorite time of year was fall & mainly for one reason...Oklahoma football! She was a huge Oklahoma football fan. She was always known for yelling at the tv when a game was on. She always loved going to church services with her family. Julie's favorite was the Christmas Eve service which was always followed up by a family I-HOP breakfast tradition.

Julie was known as a caring & loving person who had a heart of gold. She had the brightest sense of humor to match! Queen of inside jokes. The family will remember Julie for her brilliant smile, infectious laugh & her inherently sarcastic sense of humor that they all shared as a family. Everyone who knew Julie knew that they could count on her to crack a joke at the perfect moment & immediately uplift the energy in the room. Julie never met a stranger and would always have a conversation with anyone. Truly had the most generous heart, especially when it came to children. Five words to best describe Julie are Funny, Beautiful, Sarcastic, Adventurous & Patriotic. As Julie would always say "Trump 2024!"

Julie is survived by her husband of 33 years Jerry Sheats, her daughter Kristen (Sheats) Durham & son in law Camran of Tulsa, future granddaughter Journey Jaye Durham, sister Janis Schroedter & husband Darrell, brother Jeff Erwin & wife Paula & many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends. Julie was also a fur mom to her "babies" Thunder, Angel, Phoebe & Niko. Memorial donations can be made out to the Family Fellowship Church in Tulsa, OK in memory of Julie.
