Joyce Yvonne Thomas

A funeral service to celebrate the life of Joyce Yvonne Spurgeon Thomas will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020, at Schaudt's Okmulgee Chapel with pastor Dennis Taylor officiating.

Her family moved from the Butner area when she was turning six, so she could attend the Wewoka school system, graduating from Wewoka High School in May 1956, she married briefly and had a son, Dean Keith.

She met and married Jimmy D. Thomas in 1958. Three more children were born from this union Michael, Renaa, and Shelley, the family moved to Ada in 1959 due to a work transfer and remained there until Jimmy was transferred to Okmulgee in 1970. All four children graduated from Okmulgee High School and all four pursued higher education.

Joyce worked for various lawyers and in the court clerk’s office, then went to work for the Social Security Administration, moving up in the ranks to Claims Representative, retiring in December 2004 after 26 1/2 years.

Her retirement has consisted of traveling with friends, belonging to the YMCA, and keeping busy with grandchildren's activities.

She is preceded in death by her mother, father and son, Dean, as well as many other relatives.

She is survived by her son, Michael and his wife Teresa , daughter Renae Raburn and her husband Perry, daughter Shelley Levan, grandchildren, Jeremy Thomas, Chris Thomas, Eden LeVan Pettus and husband Dustin, Pettus Sean Raburn and Haley Raburn; her sister Patsy Treat as well as various nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements are entrusted to Schaudt’s Okmulgee Funeral Service & Cremation Care Centers.
