Johnny Marvin Bowyer, Jr.

October 11, 1969 — May 6, 2019

Johnny Marvin Bowyer, Jr. of Tulsa, Oklahoma passed from this life to his eternal home on May 6, 2019 after an extended battle with cancer.

Johnny was born in Bartlesville, Oklahoma on October 10, 1969, to Johnny and Martha (Lacy) Bowyer. He grew up in Perkins, Oklahoma and graduated from Perkins-Tryon High School in 1988. He earned a Diesel Technology certificate from Meridian Technology Center and an Associate's Degree in Welding and Inspection from Tulsa Welding School. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard.

Johnny married Melissa Sleeger on May 8, 1992 in Stillwater, Oklahoma. The couple made their home first in Perkins, then Glenpool, and most recently in west Tulsa.

He is survived by his wife Melissa of the home; his parents Johnny and Martha Bowyer of Perkins; his daughter Ashley Mayse, son-in-law Monty, and granddaughters Kinzley and Kamberly of Perkins; a son Carl Michael Bunting and grandchildren Serenity, Jeremy, and Johnathan of Tulsa; a sister Marsha Johnson and brother-in-law Dan of Perkins; a nephew Aaron Johnson of Perkins and niece Bethany Case and husband Ryan of Stillwater; father-in-law Carl Sleeger and brothers-in-law Neil, Marty, and Chris Sleeger and sister-in-law Robin Hall, all of Glenpool; and a host of extended family and friends.

Johnny was a highly accomplished welder, machinist, draftsman, and engineer. His past employers included Enardo Manufacturing, HMT Tank, and Emerson. At the time of his death, he was employed at EnviroValve, Inc. in Broken Arrow. He served his employers in such capacities as Shop Manager, Research and Development Director, Instructor, and Safety Committee chair. He was an excellent trainer, and enjoyed passing on his knowledge to others. Johnny's efforts at Emerson helped develop products resulting in three patents. While at EnviroValve, Johnny was instrumental in the development of the revolutionary Enviro-Valve pressure relief valve and the ASME-certified Accu-Shear shearing pin device, which also resulted in a patent for the company.

In his free time, when he wasn't tinkering at his home shop, Johnny loved to fish. He loved the outdoors, the mountains, camping, and spending time with family. He also enjoyed watching car races and drag races, attending car shows, and collecting model cars.

Friends and family are invited to join in one or both Celebration of Life Services that are planned. The family will receive friends from 3pm-5pm on Sunday May 19, 2019 at the Christian Church of Perkins Fellowship Hall. A Tulsa area reception is also pending for a future date.
